Wong receives chair in vision neuroscience
Funds provided by SickKids Board of Trustees member
Dr. Agnes Wong , Ophthalmologist in the Department of Ophthalmology and Vision Sciences and a Clinician Scientist in the Neurosciences & Mental Health program, Research Institute, is the inaugural recipient of the John and Melinda Thompson Chair in Vision Neuroscience at SickKids and the University of Toronto. The chair was established with funds provided by John Thompson, Vice-Chair of the SickKids Board of Trustees and his wife, Melinda.
Wong's research focus is on understanding the neural mechanisms of different forms of strabismus and abnormal eye movements. Recognition for Wong's work includes a New Investigator Award from the Canadian Institutes for Health Research, an inaugural Young Investigator Award from the American Association of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, a Young Investigator Award from the North American Neuro-Ophthalmology Society, as well as an Early Researcher Award from the Ontario government.
The announcement of the John and Melinda Thompson Chair in Vision Neuroscience and the formal appointment of Wong will be on November 5 in the Hollywood Theatre at 5 p.m.
