Posters promote campfire safety

Campfires can provide endless hours of warmth and fun, but they can also be dangerous. When the night is over, it’s vital to put out your fire and “cool your coals.”

That’s the important safety message being communicated on posters by the Burn Prevention Outreach Team at SickKids. The poster was developed in collaboration with Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre to encourage campfire safety.

Children who fall into the coals of a fire that has not been properly extinguished can have deep burns to the hands and feet. They may need weeks of dressing changes, skin graft operations and years of rehabilitation.

You can help prevent these injuries by making sure you “cool your coals” by pouring one or two buckets of water over the campfire.
