Dr. Steven Schwartz appointed the inaugural holder of The Norine Rose Chair in Cardiovascular Sciences

Dr. Steven Schwartz, Head of the Division of Cardiac Critical Care Medicine and Senior Associate Scientist, Physiology & Experimental Medicine, has been appointed the inaugural holder of The Norine Rose Chair in Cardiovascular Sciences. The formal announcement was made today at a special ceremony.

As Head of the Division of Cardiac Critical Care Medicine, Schwartz has authored and co-authored dozens of papers and book chapters on clinical care and cardiac dysfunction in children with congenital heart disease. His current focus is on the effects of cardiopulmonary bypass on neonatal cardiac function and on the role genetics may play in response to cardiac surgery.

A chair is an academic honour bestowed on scientists and clinicians to recognize achievements in their field of study or potential to contribute to an area of study. The impressive number of chairs awarded to members of SickKids, 26 in total, reflects the excellence and high caliber of the Hospital’s scientists, clinicians and faculty.
