Mary McAllister

Mary McAllister has joined SickKids in the role of Associate Chief, Nursing Practice. McAllister has been actively engaged in nursing professional organizations and has contributed to many advances in nursing practice throughout her career, developing innovative programs and championing evidence-informed practice in a variety of health and academic settings provincially, nationally and internationally.

“Mary will be well known to many of you as a nurse leader who has an integrated background of clinical, education, research and leadership experience,” says Pam Hubley, Chief, Professional Practice and Nursing. “Mary has always been a trailblazer. Whether as the first neonatal nurse practitioner at SickKids or as the Program Director for the Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Program at the Lawrence S. Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing at the University of Toronto, Mary has worked to advance professional practice and collaborative models of care in the clinical, education and administrative realms of nursing.”

McAllister’s career at SickKids began as a Staff Nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and later worked in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit as a Clinical Nurse Specialist. She taught at the University of Toronto, Ryerson University and at the School of Nursing, Edith Cowan University in Perth, Australia. McAllister has also held the position of Director of Patient Services and Professional Practice at North York Branson Hospital and, most recently, was the Director of Professional Practice, Nursing, at Bridgepoint Health.

“I’m excited to be back at SickKids and I’m looking forward to working with everyone across the organization to continue advancing the care we provide to children and families,” says McAllister.
