In 2010, SickKids began a historic five-year partnership with Hamad Medical Corporation to create a state-of-the-art children’s hospital in Doha, Qatar. Read about the project and the SickKids staff experience, one of our major project milestones and research.

SickKids is assisting Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) with education and training, and is partnering to develop an evidence-based paediatric clinical education program for nurses to enhance and expand their subspecialty skills in caring for children in Qatar.

Two programs – a preceptor program and an up-skilling program – have launched and a total of 267 HMC nurses have completed one of the two programs. As well, 13 nurses from the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)  have participated in the two-week PICU subspecialty education program.

Continuing education courses offered by SickKids staff in areas including central line care, pain management, and respiratory disorders have been attended by  198 paediatric nurses.

One participant called the interactive programming inspiring, and “one of the best training seminars I have ever attended. All of the participants participated in the lectures and activities, with very informative discussions.”

The programs will continue as a part of HMC’s continuing education for nurses.

Check back next week for our update on perioperative services.
