Fellowship
Thank you for expressing interest in our paediatric anaesthesia fellowship. Our program is a one year program consisting of four days per week of clinical anaesthesia (exposure to all of the subspecialty areas including pain management, cardiac, craniofacial, neuro, transplantation and neonatal anaesthesia).
Fellows are allocated one day per week of non-clinical (academic) time. It is expected that this non-clinical time will be used to participate in new or ongoing research initiatives within the department. Research findings are presented at an annual University of Toronto Department of anaesthesia research symposium, in the form of a poster and/or oral presentation. Submission of research findings to major international anaesthesia meetings is strongly encouraged and supported. Additional protected time is available and dependant on the needs, goals and performances of individual fellows.
A structured educational program for fellows consists of seminars in cardiac anaesthesia, statistics, and pain management. Fellows also attend weekly research rounds, trouble rounds and a Friday morning pediatric anaesthesia review seminar.
Accommodation can be arranged at the Alan Brown building, a hospital apartment residence adjacent to the hospital. It is home for the majority of SickKids fellows, and has a large rooftop garden which serves as a useful meeting place for SickKids fellows and their families.
Toronto is one of the most multicultural cities in the world, with over 100 languages spoken in the city. A third of residents speak a language other than English at home. This is reflected in the variety of dining, theatre, and music found in Toronto. The city is surrounded by lakes, forests, and wide open spaces. Destinations for hiking, swimming, canoeing and skiing are plentiful. Toronto is close not only to Montreal and Quebec City, but also to New York, Boston, and Chicago. Come and enjoy!
