What is CALIPER?
CALIPER = Canadian Laboratory Initiative on Paediatric Reference Intervals DatabaseA national initiative coordinated by clinical laboratories at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids, Toronto) and Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO, Ottawa). A research project among children’s hospitals across Canada including Toronto, Ottawa, Hamilton, Montreal, St. John’s, Saskatoon, and Vancouver. CALIPER purposeThe purpose of the project is to establish a current and accurate database of reference intervals (normal values) that represent Canada’s children and youth - multi-ethnic, males and females, from birth to 18 years. CALIPER team at SickKidsDr. Khosrow Adeli, the Principal Investigator for CALIPER project in Toronto, is Head of Clinical Biochemistry at The Hospital for Sick Children. He is also a professor at the University of Toronto, with over 20 years of research and clinical experience. Jennifer Pinto, Clinical Research Project Coordinator for CALIPER, has over 7 years of experience in clinical research at SickKids. Jennifer is a registered Social Worker, specialized in the area of children and families. Victoria Bevilacqua, CALIPER Project Assistant has recently graduated with an HBSc in Human Biology from the University of Toronto. She has been involved with CALIPER since 2008 and has many years of experience working with children in schools and communities. Sarah Delaney, CALIPER Project Assistant has recently completed her MSc in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of Toronto. As a new member of the CALIPER team, Sarah brings many years of research-based experience and an extensive background working with children and families. Man Khun Chan, the Technical and Laboratory Coordinator for CALIPER, is also a research and clinical laboratory technologist at The Hospital for Sick Children.
