Schools and Community Partners

Thank you for your interest in bringing CALIPER to your school or community! The project could not continue without the help of its many partnerships. There are a number of ways that you can help us to improve our connections in the community and to recruit new participants to our initiative, depending on your organization’s mandate.

School Clinics

CALIPER participants st school

We have had considerable success in the past partnering with schools, and have developed a highly organized system for operating clinics. If your school agrees to partner with CALIPER, here is what you can expect:

  • One week prior to the clinic, CALIPER staff will arrange a time with you for our team to visit and give a short presentation to your students. This presentation will allow us to explain the project and answer any questions. At this time, packages containing questionnaires and consent forms will be given to each student.
  • Over the next few days, as form packages are returned to your teachers, we will be in touch with you and will arrange to have them collected by a member of the CALIPER staff. We will use these completed packages to organize students into grade or class groups and will begin scheduling them into specific time slots on the day of the clinic, helping to minimize any disruption to their school day.
  • On the day of the clinic, our team of coordinators, volunteers, and trained phlebotomists will arrive about half an hour before the first appointment is scheduled to begin setting up. We will call students down to the clinic in small groups and see each student through the process, from informed consent through to the blood draw and participant gift stage. We ensure that student privacy and confidentiality are maintained at all times while measurements are being taken and samples collected.

If you are interested in promoting the kind of civic engagement and volunteerism that CALIPER represents in your school community, please contact Alexandra Hall to learn more.

Community Organizations, Camps, Daycares and Other Locations

CALIPER is open to all opportunities to reach new interested participants. If you think that your particular group would be willing to host a CALIPER clinic day, please get in touch.

As part of our ongoing outreach efforts, we may also be interested in organizing information booths at various community, sporting, and health-related events. If you would be willing to allow CALIPER to distribute materials at your next event, feel free to contact us.
