The teaching mission of the division is dedicated to providing bedside clinical and didactic teaching to trainees from a variety of disciplines. All core fellows in critical care and cardiology have scheduled rotations through the Cardiac Critical Care Unit providing the majority of patient care, and trainees from other areas such as neonatology, anesthesia or general pediatrics are welcome. Advanced training in cardiac critical care is available for individuals already fully trained in pediatric cardiology or critical care. The division frequently hosts observers from critical care and cardiology programs from around the world. Members of the division participate in scheduled lecture series to trainees in critical care, cardiology and anesthesia. They are also frequent invited speakers at national and international educational symposia on topics including care of the post-operative cardiac patient, oxygen delivery in critical illness, pediatric pulmonary hypertension, care of the neonate with congenital heart disease, mechanical support of the failing heart, cardiorespiratory interactions and management of respiratory failure in congenital heart disease.
