Solo Interactions

Most SickKids patients are encouraged to learn how to communicate with health-care providers on their own for part or some of their visits. Some clinics even set ages in which teenagers are expected to be seen alone.  Practicing how to speak for yourself, while still a SickKids patient, will help increase your comfort with health-care providers when you enter the adult system.

Prepare for your solo interactions by thinking ahead about what you might want to talk about without your parents or family members present. You can write these topics or questions down before your appointment and even practice asking them with your caregivers.
