October 5th, 2009
Download the registration form.
Early developmental screening can profoundly influence a child's long term developmental outcomes. Programs need to create a system for screening that uses reliable procedures and tools. Such a system must engage parents, practitioners and ensure that the results of any screens are accurately scored, interpreted and the information gathered used for any programming involving the child. This workshop is designed for programs that are implementing or preparing to implement a developmental screening system.
During this session, participants will explore:
• Features of a quality developmental screening program
• The roles of parents and practitioners in effective developmental screening programs
• How to interpret the results of a developmental screen
• How to communicate results of a developmental screen to parents
• How to use the information from a developmental screen for individual and group programming purposes
• How to use and interpret the Ages and Stages Questionnaire and the Nippissing Developmental Screen
• What to do for different results
o Young children with developmental concerns
o Young children who don’t score as having concerns but are very close
o Young children who are developing as expected
Participants will have the opportunity to hear from clinicians from a variety of settings who are involved in developmental screening and will share their experiences. This session will be interactive and participants will have the opportunity to practice using both the Nippising and the Ages and Stages 3 tool, scoring the results, and using the results to create developmentally appropriate program plans for young children.
