Decision by SickKids
If your child meets the criteria for acceptance (see Eligibility Criteria), and the SickKids medical team have reviewed all the documents and test results provided, the treatment plan will be reviewed and approved by the Surgeon in Chief and/or the Paediatrician in Chief to ensure CMPA criteria have been met. Once approved, the International Patient Program Intake Coordinators will inform you of the decision.
If SickKids is able to provide care/treatment for your child, your application for treatment will be Accepted. The International Patient Program office will send you a letter with the proposed treatment plan from the SickKids specialist with an estimate of the associated costs, which may include:
- Medical/Surgical Specialty Assessment
- Complex Medical treatment plan
- Surgical treatment plan
- Medical Second Opinion
- Radiology Review
- Telehealth Consultation
If, for any reason, SickKids is unable to provide care/treatment for your child, your application for treatment will be Declined. Where possible, the International Patient Program office will provide a list of alternative local or regional paediatric centres and/or consultant doctors closer to the child's place of residence, if available.
Please note that the International Patient Program will not re-open an application file once the requested treatment as been declined.
