About the Program

The Hospital Library & Archives, established in 1919, is a physical and virtual resource of materials for the clinical, research and educational activities of staff and students, as well as our patients and families. The Archives collect and maintain the records and artefacts used or developed by the hospital, the Research Institute, the Learning Institute and SickKids Foundation.

Last year, there were over 26,000 visits to the Hospital Library and over 441,000 resource and print material used

Role in Learning

The role of the Hospital Library & Archives team is to help staff, students, patients and families find the information they need.  Our services range from conducting literature searches to borrowing items from other libraries, answering Archives questions about the history of the hospital and purchasing specialized paediatric resources.

Staff of the Hospital Library & Archives provides training on how to effectively find and manage information using an array of print and electronic library resources.  The Library provides one-on-one, group, or online training modules for staff on a variety of skills including searching biomedical literature, accessing online journals, requesting articles and books from other libraries, and using bibliographic management software.
