Comparing Health Status
Comparing the health status of immigrant children with that of children back home
How does the health and development of newcomer children compare with that of their peers back in their county of origin? In particular, how does exposure to discrimination and challenges to identify formation affect the mental health and well being of immigrant and refugee children and youth?
In order to answer these questions, the Leavers and Stayers Project compares health and development among Ethiopian immigrant children growing up in Toronto, Canada, with their counterparts in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Specific foci for comparison include overall health and well-being, exposure to discrimination and its effects, and identity formation.
