What we're planning
- We are developing new models of care delivery to treat patients with complex problems. Multidisciplinary clinics are being increasingly organized to serve children with bone health problems, complex spinal disorders, neuromuscular disorders, limb deficiencies and bone and soft tissue cancers.
- We study the biology and genetics of birth defects, developmental deformities and tumours involving the spine and the limbs. We wish to develop new therapeutic approaches to regrow absent parts, to correct deformities and treat bone tumours without surgery.
- We have expertise in basic science and in the determination of clinical outcomes of treatment. In the future we plan to marry these areas together in order to rigorously test novel treatments based on our newfound understanding of the pathophysiology of musculoskeletal disorders.
- We are undertaking a program to develop new minimally invasive surgical techniques.
- We are developing novel educational programs to train highly specialized physicians from developing countries to ensure sustainable high quality orthopaedic care.
