What we've done
- Developed new surgical procedures for a number of disorders such as for hip and spine problems.
- Ran multi-center clinical trials to identify the best treatments for several common orthopaedic problems.
- Identified the causative genes for more than a dozen orthopaedic conditions.
- Identified non-operative treatments, such as drug therapies and continuous passive motion, which reduced the need for surgery or improved the outcome of surgery
- Developed programs to improve orthopaedic outcome in developing countries.
- Treated over 500,000 children for orthopaedic problems, and performed over 80,000 orthopaedic operations.
- Developed injury prevention and disease screening strategies to reduce the incidence of children sustaining fractures and requiring treatment for neglected problems.
- Trained over 330 clinical fellows, more than any other single center in the world, who continue to make significant contributions in the field.
