Epidemiological Survey of Lead Poisoning in Children in Zhejiang Province and Study on Neurotoxicity and Immunotoxicity of Lead

 

Zhiwei Zhu, of The Children's Hospital of Zhejiang University, School of Medicine, Hangzhou, China (zhu_zw@hotmail.com) presented observations concerning lead poisoning in her region.

Dr. Zhu provided the background for the study (Figure 7.1), its objectives (Figure 7.2) and details about the epidemiologic survey (Figure 7.3).

A dramatic drop in blood lead levels were observed in urban areas from 1997- 2003 especially in the young (Figures 7.4, 7.5, 7.67.7). The reasons for the dramatic drop are shown in Figure 7.8.

The effects of lead exposure on auditory nerve function in preschool children were studied. The study and its results are shown in Figures 7.9, 7.10, 7.11

A study of the immunologic effects of lead exposure was also reported (Figure 7.12).The methods and results are summarized in Figures 7.13, 7.14, 7.15, 7.16.
