Comprehensive patient services
SickKids is experienced in meeting the special needs and concerns of international patients and the SickKids International Patient Program is first point of contact for international families. Our specially trained international patient representatives act as the main liaison to ensure effective communication between families and healthcare providers.
Respect for cultural practices and beliefs and adherence to a strict code of ethics, which includes the patient's right to privacy and confidentiality, are upheld at all times.

1. Medical Review – Quality of Care
Senior Chief/Division Head determines the admissibility of referrals
Consultations with a multi-disciplinary team including referral to the SickKids Telemedicine Program
Propose a treatment plan with the best outcomes for child
2. Financial Assessment
Individualized cost estimate based on proposed treatment plan
Integrity pricing
Access to financial and collections liaison
Assistance with financial transactions
Accurate invoicing based on treatment
3. Family Support
Referral to appropriate accommodations, host families
Facilitation to diverse ethnic community resources
Support with non-medical arrangements (Travel Visas)
Coordination of language translation services
4. Case Management
Oversee internal and external communication
Seamless coordination of medical appointment(s)
Facilitate discharge and return to home country
Utilize interdisciplinary Model of Care
SickKids international patient representatives meet with each patient and his or her family upon arrival to SickKids for an orientation and provide continued assistance throughout the duration of the child’s treatment. Our goal is to help families become as independent and comfortable as possible during their stay in Toronto.
