Child Psychotherapies and Development (CPAD) is an annual conference that focuses on research, teaching and the clinical practice of all modalities of psychotherapy for infants, children, youth and families. Developmental perspectives distinguish psychotherapies for this age group from work with adults. Thus CPAD also includes presentations of research and education in human development relevant to the practice of psychotherapies.  More recently CPAD has added social policy as a new focus for presentation and discussion based on an understanding that social policy issues directly impact mental health and development for kids and families

CPAD grew from the annual Robert L. Smith Memorial Lecture in Child Psychotherapy which has been held annually since 1991. In 2003, the annual lecture was expanded to become the Annual Day in Child Psychotherapies. CPAD is sponsored by The Hospital for Sick Children and The R.L. Smith Advisory Committee.  The Organizing Committee includes representatives from other sites in the Division of Psychiatry, community agencies and a number of other universities

CPAD is anchored by two annual lectures – The RL Smith Memorial Lecture, which focuses on clinical practice of psychotherapies and the Susan Goldberg Colloquium, which focuses on the themes of attachment and child development.
