Message from the Chief
It has been my great privilege to have followed my passion for research as a scientist at SickKids over the past 25 years. I am proud to be part of an organization that values the importance of research and innovation, and understands that they are essential for improved child health outcomes. Therefore, I am delighted to have the opportunity to be the Chief of Research at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) and to build upon our legacy of scientific advancement.
At SickKids we have a tradition of generating new scientific and clinical knowledge and of working collaboratively to apply these new discoveries to improve the lives of children in Canada and around the world. This tradition is firmly embedded in our culture and manifested in our vision of Healthier Children. A Better World. Our researchers make pioneering discoveries and develop new paradigms for understanding the fundamental underpinnings of health, as well as of disease. The outstanding quality and impact of our research is reflected in the funding and recognition it receives. I am proud to be a part of the world leading research which we at SickKids generate.
We will continue to be committed to moving research discoveries from laboratories to clinics and into the community. We are dedicated to supporting further integration of care and research through an enhanced focus on clinical research. We will work to educate our community--including our patients and their families--about the importance and benefits of participating in research.
Our mandate at SickKids includes enhancing the scope, depth and quality of clinical and translational research. Going forward we will accelerate the development of best in the world research in these areas. We will also deepen the scope of our discovery science. By enhancing research along the entire research continuum SickKids researchers will define new horizons in research, care and education. SickKids will continue to be one of the leading paediatric research hospitals in the world; I look forward to leading this amazing research enterprise.
