Funded research
All funded research projects must include a granting agency Notice of Award or a contract reviewed and approved by the Corporate Ventures Office. Contact information and review process details are available at http://www.sickkids.ca/corporateventures
Because SickKids is engaged in human subjects research that is supported by any agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), we have an OHRP-approved assurance of compliance with the HHS regulations (45 CFR 46.103) for the protection of human subjects. Our Federal Wide Assurance (FWA) number is FWA00000281.
For further details on grant-funded research projects, please refer to the Guidelines, procedures & policies section of this website.
Company Funding
All company funded research projects will require the contract to be reviewed and approved by the Corporate Ventures Office prior to issuance of approval.
Company funded health chart studies must be submitted on full application forms with the supporting study protocol. The Chair will determine if prior science review and full Board review is warranted.
Review Fee
The Research Institute began charging review fees on April 1, 2001. Effective April 1, 2006 the fee is $3000 CAD. Major amendments that must be reviewed by the full REB will be charged an additional $500 CAD each. Please note that peer-review agency supported, and departmental supported research projects are not subjected to this fee.
Company initiated studies
An invoice to the company will be generated by Research Accounting upon submission of the application. The investigator will receive a copy of the invoice for information purposes only. Investigators will continue to interact with the REB regarding modifications and revisions to the protocol but final approval will not be issued and the study may not commence until the fee has been paid by the company.
Investigator initiated studies
The potential company funder will not be invoiced a review fee. Rather, investigators are expected to include a review fee in the contract negotiated with the potential funder. Following approval and receipt of study funding, the review fee amount will be transferred by Research Accounting to the Research Institute account.
Fees charged are for REB review, not approval. Industry-funded applications will not receive preferential treatment.
Investigators are strongly encouraged to initiate the review of any contract early and in parallel with the submission process.
