Beta-catenin is a multi-functional intracellular protein that functions in cell-cell adhesions and gene transcription. We have analyzed beta-catenin expression and potential transcriptional functions using immunohistochemistry and TCF reporter mice. Our results suggest roles in the ureteric bud and the metanephric mesenchyme. Currently, we are completing our initial analysis of renal development in mice with deficiency or over expression of beta-catenin in the ureteric bud. We are also generating mice with abnormal levels of beta-catenin in the metanephric mesenchyme.
