Graduate information

The RTC coordinates various initiatives and programs catered specifically to research trainees at SickKids. A research trainee includes individuals working at The Hospital for Sick Children as Graduate Students or as Summer Students.

  • A Graduate student is any individual pursuing a Masters or PhD degree.
  • A Summer student is any individual pursuing an undergraduate degree program.

The RTC does not coordinate the new hiring of trainees to the hospital. The best way to get started in a research training position at SickKids is to investigate the areas of research which suit your interests (www.sickkids.ca/research), and contact the Principle Investigators directly.

Graduate students at SickKids must register with the RTC upon hire. You can download the registration in Acrobat format from the link to the right.

If working in a laboratory setting, it is mandatory to complete a series of safety seminars, which are provided in conjunction with Occupational Health and Safety Services.

While at SickKids, Graduate students are welcome to attend a series of Career Development Seminars.

If you are looking for funding opportunities while conducting research at SickKids, graduate students have access to:

  • Graduate studentships
  • Tuition Bursary awards
  • Trainee Start-up Funds

More information on any of the above programs is available in the Training Programs section.

SickKids Library

All trainees have access to all services/resources provided by the SickKids library.
