Brief Biography

Dr. Manohar (Manu) Shroff was named Radiologist-in-Chief in the Department of Diagnostic Imaging at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), Toronto in 2010 and is Professor in the Department of Medical Imaging, University of Toronto. Dr. Shroff is also the Ontasian Chair of Paediatric Radiology and Ontasian Imaging Laboratory and Co-director of Stroke Imaging Laboratory in Children (SILC) at SickKids. Dr. Shroff is a fellowship trained Neuroradiologist, with fellowships in Paediatric Neuroradiology and adult Neuroradiology at the University of Toronto from July 2000 to June 2002.

Clinical Activities:

Dr. Shroff is clinically actively involved in both Diagnostic and IGT/Centre of Image Guided Care at SickKids. He has a special interest in Paediatric Demyelination, Paediatric Multiple Sclerosis, Paediatric Stroke, Neonatal Imaging, and Quality Assurance in Radiology.

Education & Research:

Dr. Shroff has been very active in education and was the Fellowship Program Director at the Department of Medical Imaging, at University of Toronto and also the Neuroradiology Residency Program Directory (Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada). Dr. Shroff has received founder status for the Royal College Neuroradiology Program. Also, Dr. Shroff served as Associate Chief (Education) from 2008 to 2010 in Diagnostic Imaging. He also currently serves on the Executive committee of the Department of Medical Imaging at the University of Toronto.  Dr Shroff has been awarded “Medical Imaging Outstanding Teacher” for resident and/or fellowship teaching almost every year but one, since 2002.

As Ontasian Chair, he has established the Ontasian Imaging Laboratory (OIL), which attempts to bridge gaps between research imaging and clinical imaging. In addition to other activities, OIL has been successful in pilot grant funding (Chase Grant) for the ‘MR Thermometry’ project. The OIL team has initiated innovative projects in MR imaging for children e.g. small footprint MR simulation & motion detection and training in MRI.

Dr. Shroff has a strong interest in education and is currently involved in the Pediatric Radiology Outreach Program in India - initiated an ongoing program with grant funding from Society of Pediatric Radiology & Medical Imaging, University of Toronto. He has approximately 160 published papers and abstracts (Web of Science) of which over 100 are peer reviewed pubmed publications. He is actively involved in research and has a special interest in Pediatric Demyelination, Paediatric Multiple Sclerosis, Paediatric Stroke, Neonatal Imaging, and Quality Assurance in Radiology.  He is co-investigator and collaboration on multiple other grants.

Academic Background

Projects/ Initiatives:

  1. Ontasian Imaging Laboratory (OIL), attempts to bridge gaps between research imaging and clinical imaging. OIL has been successful in pilot grant funding (Chase Grant) for the 'MR Thermometry' project (Chris Heyn/Wayne Lee) and innovative projects in MR imaging for children e.g. small footprint MR simulation and motion detection and training in MRI (Frank Wang).
  2. Educational Projects: 'Pediatric Radiology Outreach Program' initiated an ongoing program with grant funding from Society of Pediatric Radiology & Medical Imaging, University of Toronto.
  3. Approximately 160 published papers and abstracts (Web of Science) of which 100 are peer reviewed 'Pubmed' publications.
