‘THE GHANA-SICKKIDS PAEDIATRIC NURSING TRAINING PROGRAM’
In June 2010, a delegation of SickKids Nurse Educators and Clinicians travelled to Ghana to collaborate with lecturers at the School of Nursing, University of Ghana on curriculum development for The Ghana-SickKids Paediatric Nursing Training Program (PNTP). Over the next 2.5 years this partnership will continue to work together to meet Millennium Development Goal # 4 – Reduce Child Mortality and Morbidity.
The Ghana-SickKids PNTP was officially launched on January 26, 2010 in Accra, Ghana. The program is funded by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) and is the culmination of a nearly 10-year-long drive by Ghanaian healthcare and nursing leaders to build capacity in paediatric nursing education. The objective of the Ghana-SickKids PNTP is to design, develop and deliver a Paediatric Nursing Certificate at the School of Nursing, University of Ghana. In addition to the School of Nursing, other key contributors are the Ghana Ministry of Health, the Nurses and Midwives Council of Ghana, the College of Health Sciences at the University of Ghana and Korle Bu Teaching Hospital. Together, SickKids and the Ghanaian partners have formed a collaborative relationship to advance the global agenda in child health. Please join us to learn more about nursing in sub-Saharan Africa and working with CIDA.
