Dr. Zulfiqar A. Bhutta receives The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) 2016 Prize in Medical Sciences

Dr. Zulfiqar A. Bhutta, Robert Harding Chair in Global Child Health and Co-Director of SickKids Centre for Global Child Health, has been honored with The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) 2016 Prize in recognition of his academic work in paediatrics and public health in Pakistan, which has contributed to shape global child health & policy. The award was announced this week at the 27th General Assembly in Kigali, Rwanda. The award is one of the global apex awards to scientists across the developing world for lifetime contributions. This is the first time that the award has been made for contributions to public health and policy.

TWAS is a global science academy, based in Trieste, Italy, working to advance science and engineering for sustainable prosperity in the developing world. Every year, TWAS awards nine prizes of USD$15,000 to agricultural sciences, biology, chemistry, earth sciences, engineering sciences, mathematics, medical sciences, physics and social sciences. Winners will present their research and receive the awards at the 28th TWAS General Meeting in 2017.
