Using the facility

Biosafety Requirements

1. Biosafety Policies

All users now are required to complete the FMCF Biosafety Policies learning module. At the end of the module you will be required to submit your name and sign an acknowledgment statement.

2. Institutional Biosafety Permit

To operate FMCF instruments, all users must provide documentation that their Principal Investigator has Institutional Biosafety approval for use of any biohazardous agents that will be brought into our facility.

  • SICKKIDS PI's must have a valid SickKids Biosafety Permit for their lab.
  • UHN PI's must have a valid UHN Research Biosafety Certificate for their lab.
  • EXTERNAL PI's (non-SickKids or UHN) must have a valid UHN Research Biosafety Certificate for their lab. Contact UHN Biosafety () to obtain a UHN Research Biosafety Certificate.

Note: An electronic copy of your safety training certificate(s) must be submitted when you register for training.

3. Institutional Safety Training

To operate FMCF instruments, all individual users must also provide proof of institutional safety training.

  • SICKKIDS USERS: must provide proof that they have completed SickKids Biological Safety 1 and 2 and Chemical Safety 1 and 2 training within the last 24 months. To enrol online for SickKids safety seminars, visit the SickKids intranet site

  • UHN and EXTERNAL USERS: must provide an electronic copy of a valid UHN Research Safety Training Certificate. Please contact UHN Biosafety () to register for UHN Research Safety Training and obtain a certificate.
