About fetal MRI research at SickKids
Disorders of the fetal circulation due to congenital heart disease or placental insufficiency are associated with adverse neurodevelopmental outcomes and pulmonary vascular disease. Human fetal circulatory physiology affects development of fetal organs but has previously been difficult to study comprehensively. Our research group is interested in the application of advanced MRI technologies to characterize fetal hemodynamics and to better understand the mechanisms and timing of fetal injury in high-risk pregnancies. These technologies and their application are summarized on this site, while more detailed explanations are available in the Publications and Presentations section.
