Brief Biography

Christine Armstrong is a Clinical Nurse Specialist/Nurse Practitioner in the Blood and Marrow Transplant Program within the Division of Haematology/Oncology. She has worked extensively within both the in and out patient settings of the program. Presently responsible for coordintion of patient care throughout all clinical phases of transplantation she provides education and support for patients and families during this time.

Christine serves as a clinical resource for nursing staff for practice based issues and participates in and supports clinical research activities. Collaboration with other interdisciplinary team members is an integral part of her roles as is frequent consultation and coordination with external agencies including C.C.A.C., schools and family physicians.

Past research includes a qualitative study titled: Children Attending School with Leukaemia: Mothers' Activities and concerns.

Clinical Care Activities

Christine obtained her Bachelor of Nursing from the University of New Brunswick (1980), Master of Science in Nursing from the University of toronto (1991) and completed the Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Certificate from the University of Toronto (1994). Christine has been employed at The Hospital for Sick Children since 1980 and in addition to her experience in Blood and Marrow Transplantation she has worked in General Paediatrics and Critical Care.

Research Interests

Issues related to mothering a child with chronic illness.
Psychosocial issues for children and families undergoing Blood and Marrow Transplantation.

Future Research Interests

Identification of factors related to the preparation of children for peripheral blood stem cell collection.
