Brief Biography

Clinical Care Activities

  1. Speech and language evaluation of children with brain tumours, neurological disease and acquired and traumatic brain injury
  2. Consultation and education of caregivers, rehabilitationists and educators regarding the impact of brain tumours and their treatment on children's speech and language functioning

Research Interests

  • Oral motor impairment in children with brain tumours
  • Postoperative cerebellar mutism
  • Language impairment late effects in children with brain tumours
  • Augmentative and alternative communication in acute care
  • Supporting communicative functioning during palliation

Research Activities

  1. Beyond mutism: motor speech disorders in children with posterior fossa brain tumours
  2. Investigation of communication modalities for paediatric patients during transient voicelessness through augmented environmnets
  3. Communicating with the dying child: tapping into the communication experiences of bereaved families to improve palliative care of children with brain tumours
  4. Social skills intervention for children and adolescents with brain tumours

Future Research Interests

  • Development of treatment paradigms for children with oral motor movement and motor speech disorders in the context of their management for a brain tumour
  • Evaluation of the language impairment late effects associated with radiation therapy for children with posterior fossa brain tumours
