Brief Biography

Dr. Pier Bryden has been a staff psychiatrist at SickKids since 2001. She is a graduate of the Universities of Toronto, Oxford, and McMaster.  She has subspecialty certification in child and adolescent psychiatry with the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada. Bryden is an Associate Professor at the University of Toronto.

Bryden has served as the Undergraduate Medical Education (UME) Pre-clerkship Director at the University of Toronto since 2013, and is co-leading a process of curriculum renewal with a launch date for the new pre-clerkship of 2016/17.  Previously she served as the UME Faculty Lead for Ethics and Professionalism.

Bryden is Chair of the Medical Council of Canada’s Public Health, Ethics, Legal, and Organizational Aspects of Medicine Examination Committee, and is a member of the Central Examination Committee.  She also sits on the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons’ History and Heritage Committee.  Her academic publications include papers on medical education, medical professionalism, and ethical and legal aspects of child psychiatry.  She is the co-author, with Dr. David Goldbloom, of a popular book on psychiatry, “How Can I Help: A Week in my Life as a Psychiatrist”,  published by Simon and Schuster in February 2016, and a Canadian non-fiction bestseller.
