Brief Biography

Dr. Chavhan graduated from The University of Mumbai, India, completing a radiology residency at the same university in 2003. He did his paediatric radiology fellowship at SickKids and stayed on as a staff paediatric radiologist. He is also an Associate Professor of Radiology at the University of Toronto since 2010.

He currently works in paediatric body imaging, including MRI, US, CT, fluoroscopy and general radiology. He conducts weekly MRI rounds for the residents and fellows in the department. He is actively involved in the educational outreach program and has lectured on many paediatric imaging topics.

Academic Background

Projects/ Initiatives:

  1. Role of MRI in treatment planning of paediatric adnexal masses.
  2. Additional value of gadolinium contrast in abdominal MRI of paediatric oncology patients.
  3. Reference blood flow volumes in major body vessels in healthy volunteers determined by phase contrast MRI.

Research Interests

Paediatric body imaging using several modalities including Computed Tomography (CT), Ultrasound (US), and Magnetic Resonance (MR). Chavhan's main research focus is on paediatric body MRI.

Achievements

Chavhan has received several Cum Laude and Certificate of Merit awards for educational exhibits at RSNA Annual Meetings. He was awarded the Roentgen Resident /Fellow Research Award by the RSNA in 2009 and 2010. He has received the outstanding teacher award from the fellowship program within the Medical Imaging Department at the University of Toronto every year since his appointment.

Publications

Chavhan has published two books: MRI Made Easy and Cross-Sectional Anatomy - CT and MR and several book chapters. He has developed and published a smart phone app on paediatric body MRI protocols called ‘pedsMRI’ which is now available for download on iTunes and Google play.
