Brief Biography

Anne Dipchand received her Doctor of Medicine from the University of Toronto in 1992. She completed her paediatric residency at the Hospital for Sick Children in 1996 in addition to a fellowship in paediatric cardiology in 1999. She then joined SickKids as a staff cardiologist with a focus on heart transplant and echocardiography and remains to this date. She became Clinical Head of the Heart Transplant Program in 2003, Section Head in 2005 and also filled the role of Section Head of Echocardiography from 2005 to 2008.

Dipchand’s research has focused on issues relevant to the care of children with end-stage heart failure and paediatric heart transplantation – most specifically morbidity and mortality-related risk factor assessments. She was President and scientific lead of the Pediatric Heart Transplant Study from 2008-2010 and in 2011 assumed a leadership position as the Associate Director, Pediatric for the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation Registry. She has been chair of both the Paediatric and Education Committees of the Canadian Society of Transplantation, and is currently the chair of the American Society of Transplantation Pediatric Community of Practice. She serves on the boards of the International Pediatric Transplant Association and the David Foster Foundation. She is on the Steering Committee of the International Mechanically Assisted Circulatory Support (IMACS) Registry. Dipchand is also the founding president and CEO of the Pediatric Heart Transplant Study Foundation.

Research Interests

Dipchand’s research career has focused on end-stage heart failure and pediatric heart transplantation – most specifically morbidity and mortality-related risk factor assessments. She has been very successful in leadership positions in the two major paediatric heart transplant-related databases, both of which are international. She was president and scientific lead for the Pediatric Heart Transplant Study from 2009 to 2011. She assumed a leadership position for the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation Registry as Associate Director, Pediatric, in 2011. Her research interests are broadly divided into:

  • antibodies in pediatric heart transplantation
  • outcomes post-listing and post-heart transplantation
  • transplant cardiac allograft vasculopathy
  • research leadership and administration.
