Brief Biography

Dr. Dagys graduated from the University of Toronto with her DDS (honours) and Diploma in Orthodontics.  She has been a Staff Orthodontist in the Division of Orthodontics and with the Centre for Craniofacial Care and Research since 1977.  She also maintains a private practice in The Beaches in Toronto.  

Dr. Dagys, assistant professor at the University of Toronto, Faculty of Dentistry and a fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada, has earned international recognition as a researcher, author and lecturer on the subject of cleft lip and palate and other craniofacial anomalies.

At The Hospital for Sick Children, Dr. Dagys was a resident in Pediatric Dentistry and Maxillofacial Prosthodontics from 1974 - 1975, a member of the Executive Committee of the Craniofacial Treatment and Research Centre from 1978 - 1990, the acting head of the Division of Orthodontics from 1981- 1982, and dental representative to the Medical Staff Association from 1986 - 1991.

Dr. Dagys is one of the founding organizers of Ski for Kids; a fundraiser in support of Cleft Lip and Palate Research at The Hospital for Sick Children.

Clinical Care Activities

Dr. Dagys is active in clinical care and education at The Hospital for Sick Children. She is involved in the orthodontic, surgical-orthodontic and prosthodontic rehabilitation of patients with cleft lip and palate, craniofacial anomalies and acquired growth disturbances of the dentofacial complex.

Dr. Dagys teaches clinical research fellows in Orthodontics, dental residents in Paediatric Dentistry, surgical residents and craniofacial surgical fellows in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, graduate students in Orthodontics from the University of Toronto and dental hygiene students from various colleges in Ontario.

Leadership in Professional Associations

A member of numerous associations and groups, Dr. Dagys has held positions on councils and committees.  She is the past president of the Toronto East Dental Society, the Association of Women Dentists of Ontario, the Ontario Association of Orthodontists, the Ontario Association of Dental Specialists, the Canadian Association of Orthodontists and the Tau Tau Chapter of the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honourary Dental Society. She was the first vice president of the Canadian Craniofacial Society. Dr. Dagys is presently a deputy regent for the International College of Dentists.  

Dr. Dagys has been active in the American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association, and has served on executive council and various committees.  She served a three-year term on the University of Toronto Dental Faculty Council.
