Brief Biography

Colleen received her PhD from the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto, where she studied neurobiological mouse models of addiction. She more recently completed a research fellowship with the Department of Psychiatry at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) where she gained expertise in Magnetoencephalography (MEG), a functional neuroimaging technique that measures the neuromagnetic currents emanating from the human brain. Colleen studied how the changes in neuromagnetic fields related to aberrant human behaviours such as those observed in attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).  She continues to investigate how neural function maps onto aberrant behaviours with recent collaborations in the fields of neuropathic pain and obsessive-compulsive disorder.  Currently, Colleen is a research associate in the Mabbott Lab where she uses a convergent methods approach by combining measures of brain structure (MRI) with measures of neural function (MEG) and behaviour (neuropsychological testing) in order to investigate how neuronal function relates to behaviour and cognition in healthy children and children who have been diagnosed and treated for brain tumours.
Areas of Expertise: Magnetoencephalography, diffusion tensor imaging, cortical rhythms, behaviour, neurobiology
