Brief Biography

Dr. Fischer completed his Emergency Medicine training at Alameda County Medical Center in Oakland, California. His subspecialty training included a Pediatric Emergency Medicine fellowship at Children's Hospital and Research Center Oakland and an Emergency Ultrasound Fellowship at Alameda County Medical Center. 

Dr. Fischer has lectured and instructed physicians nationally and internationally on the evolving use of ultrasound technology in Pediatric Emergency Medicine. He founded the innovative Emergency Point-of-Care Ultrasound Program at The Hospital for Sick Children in 2011 which includes the Pediatric Emergency Point-of-Care Ultrasound Fellowship; the first of its kind in Canada.  

He now leads the Division of Emergency Medicine, which delivers care to more than 70,000 children annually, and collaborates across SickKids, the University of Toronto and throughout the world to continually improve the care of ill and injured children. Recent achievements include: pioneering work in the application of point-of-care ultrasound, innovation in competency-based education using medical simulation and in-situ team training, and novel patient safety initiatives.
