Brief Biography
Dr. Vito Forte is Otolaryngologist in Chief at The Hospital for Sick Children and a full Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology, Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto. He maintains a full time broad based practice in paediatric otolaryngology. His clinical and academic focus is almost exclusively on airway-head and neck surgery in children. Specialty areas include complex airway problems, congenital malformations, embryological surgery and oncologic surgery of the head and neck, and laryngotracheal reconstruction. He is regarded by his peers as one of the finest paediatric otolaryngologists-head and neck surgeons in Canada and has an international referral practice as well. Dr. Forte recently completed a seven year term as Associate Surgeon in Chief. He also is a consultant for the Neonatal Intensive Care Units at the Mount Sinai and Sunnybrook-Women’s College Hospitals. He is a past recipient of the HSC Robert Salter Humanitarian award and the University's Department of Otolaryngology Teacher of the Year award.
Dr. Forte is a member of the Canadian Society of Otolaryngology and the American Society of Pediatric Otolaryngology and maintains an active surgical research interest. He has personally developed and tested, experimentally and clinically, two operations that have gained popularity worldwide. He has 92 publications and 14 book chapters. He is an innovative thinker having developed and tested a system for the removal of earwax. He developed the hospital's departmental website and designed the software for a network referral system which is currently being implemented. He is active in undergraduate, resident and fellowship education and is a regular participant in Continuing Medical Education events. He continues to coordinate the University Departmental Grand Rounds which he has done since 1989.
