Brief Biography

Eleanor Hendershot is a Clinical Nurse Specialist/Acute Care Nurse Practitioner in the division of Hematology/Oncology. Her role is in the outpatient clinic within the "Solid Tumour" Program. She delivers comprehensive care to children being treated or followed for a malignancy.

Eleanor received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Ottawa in 1994. She began her pediatric oncology-nursing career at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) in Ottawa. She completed her Master of Nursing in 2003 from the University of Toronto, in the Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program. She has been working at the Hospital for Sick Children in the division of Haematology/Oncology since 1999.

Eleanor is a member of Registered Nurses Association of Ontario, the Nurse Practitioner Association of Ontario, the Canadian Nurses Association, the Association of Paediatric Oncology Nurses and the Children’s Oncology Group.

Clinical Care Activities

Eleanor brings clinical expertise in area of pediatirc oncology to her current role as CNS/NP. She collaborates with the multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive care to children and adolescents with cancer along with their families. Elanor predominantly follows children who are receiving active therapy and those who experience significant side effects from their treatment. In addition to her clinical activities, Eleanor is a member of the Haematology/Oncology Scientific Review Board, the Haematology/Oncology Patient Care Committee, and the Advance Practice Nursing Council.

Research Interests

Eleanor’s primary areas of interest are: patients undergoing treatment for bone tumors and supportive care issues arising from the treatment of cancer, including the treatment of postoperative fevers and mucositis.
