Brief Biography

Dr. Adrian James is a full time paediatric otorhinolaryngologist who joined the staff at The Hospital for Sick Children in March 2005.

While maintaining a general interest in ear, nose and throat conditions of childhood, he has special interest in ear surgery and cochlear implantation. His practice also includes endoscopic sinus surgery for children with systemic disorders such as cystic fibrosis, and involvement in the multidisciplinary treatment of airway anomalies.

His research interests are in auditory science and in development of minimally invasive airway interventions.

Much of Dr. James' medical training took place in the United Kingdom. He graduated from the Universities of Cambridge (Medical Sciences, with MA in pharmacology, 1987) and Oxford (Clinical Medicine, 1990). Basic surgical training, including experience of neurosurgery, general and plastic surgery was undertaken in Bristol, UK, and otorhinolaryngology training was based in Oxford. He spent an extended fellowship at the Otolaryngology Department, The Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto, developing a strong interest in paediatric ENT. This lead to a consultant appointment at the Bristol Royal Children’s Hospital, UK which he held for two years before returning to Toronto.
