Brief Biography

Dr. Melanie Kirby is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Paediatrics at the University of Toronto and a member of the Haematology Section in the Division of Haematology/Oncology. Dr. Kirby received her medical undergraduate training at the University of West Indies. Following a paediatric residency at the University of West Indies, Dr. Kirby completed further training in paediatrics and in paediatric haematology/oncology at the Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto. Dr. Kirby joined the Division in early 2000 following a staff physician appointment in the Division of Haematology/Oncology at the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario, Ottawa. Dr. Kirby is the Divisional MD responsible for the Hemoglobinopathy Program and is she Director of the Division's Undergraduate Program. Dr. Kirby was recipient of the Hour Glass Award from the National Thalassemia Foundation of Canada in 1998.
