Brief Biography

Dr. Peggy Marcon is a gastroenterologist in the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition.  She graduated from McNeese State University in Louisiana and then attended medical school at Louisiana State University, Shreveport, graduating in 1983.  She undertook her pediatric residency at the Dallas Children’s Hospital and University of Texas Southwestern.  She then came to the Hospital for Sick Children to complete a fellowship in Gastroenterology.  Once on staff she set up the Gastrointestinal Motility Testing Suite.  With her interest in gastrointestinal motility she joined and now runs the Dysphagia Clinic where children with medically based swallowing issues are seen.  She is part of the clinical and research team in Multidisciplinary Tracheal Esophageal Atresia and Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia Clinics.  She also holds a Celiac Clinic.

Research Interests

  • Gastrointestinal Motility
  • Swallowing Disorders
  • Eosinophilic GI Diseases
  • Foregut Congenital anomalies
  • Celiac Disease

Dr. Marcon’s research interests follow her areas of clinical interest and expertise.  In general the clinical studies have evolved from groups of patients seen in the Dysphagia (Swallowing Disorders) Clinic.  This includes esophageal motility problems, such as Achalasia, and Eosinophilic Esophagitis.  She has collaborative projects with other Canadian Centers in the area of Eosinophilic Esophagitis.  As a member of the EA/TEF and CDH clinics they are looking at long term outcomes, burden of care and morbidity.
Dr. Marcon also have an interest in Celiac Disease and have collaboration with Pediatric Endocrinology. They have a large multi-center study looking at dual diagnosis – Celiac Disease and Type 1 Diabetes, and the effect of gluten free diet.
