Brief Biography

Dr. Parra was born and did his secondary education in Concepción, Chile. He was accepted in the Catholic University of Chile Medical School (Santiago, Chile) in 1995. In 2000, Dr. Parra received his medical baccalaureate with honours and in 2002 his medical degree with maximum honours. During his medical training he was recognized for his work in research focused in the improvement of the treatment of patients affected by poisonous animal bites and the prevention of these types of events. He also spent several years teaching other medical students Histology, Parasitology and Physics.

Dr. Parra started his radiology residency in 2002 at the Catholic University of Chile General Hospital, obtaining the title of General Radiologist (with honors) in 2005.

After working six months as a general radiology staff at Catholic University he was accepted on a three years fellowship in paediatric radiology at SickKids (2006-2008). He focused in Interventional radiology and came on staff in February 2009. He now works as a full-time interventional radiologist with main areas of interest being image guided interventions to improve the quality of life of paediatric patients with rheumatologic diseases, venous access in children and medical education.

  1. Integration of simulation in interventional radiology training.
  2. Improvement of the treatment of paediatric patients with arthritis.
  3. Collaboration in the development of new techniques for the management of renal stones in children.
  4. Assessment of the utility and role of percutaneous cholangiography in the diagnostic algorithm of biliary atresia.

Musculoskeletal interventions, Nephro-urological procedures, Vascular access in preterm patients, Interventional radiology in the management of Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis, Management of Pseudoaneurysms, Percutaneous Cholangiography in biliary atresia.
