Brief Biography

Dr. Pang obtained her PhD in psychology from York University in 1997. For her doctoral dissertation, she examined the effects of different pharmacological agents on event-related brain potentials associated with auditory processing and auditory attention. She proceeded to complete a post-doctoral fellowship at the Hospital For Sick Children where she tracked the developmental course of auditory event-related potentials associated with the processing of speech and non-speech stimuli. Currently, her interests involve using auditory event-related potentials to examine diseases with dysfunctional auditory processing.

Clinical Care Activities

Clinical evoked potentials and magnetoencephalography (MEG).

Areas of Specialty:
Neurophysiology – evoked potential studies

Research Interests

  • describing the development of auditory processing in normal children using evoked potentials (EP) and event-related potentials (ERP) obtained from electroencephalographic measures (EEG) as well as magnetic evoked fields obtained from the magnetoencephalogram (MEG)
  • tracking the development of auditory processing by using brain electrical source analysis (BESA) to correlate components of the auditory evoked response with their underlying neural generators
  • examining auditory processing in children with Landau-Kleffner syndrome and autism spectrum disorder to test whether there are consistent patterns of dysfunction, as measured by ERPs that can serve as fingerprints for the various disorders
  • using ERPs to examine higher cognitive functions such as speech, language and math processing

Future Research Interests

To use ERPs and MEG to differentiate degrees of auditory processing dysfunction in children, and then use this information to characterize subgroups along the spectrum of autistic disorder.
