Brief Biography

Lori Palozzi is a Clinical Nurse Specialist-Nurse Practitioner on the Anaesthesia Pain Service. She developed the first APN role in the Department of Anesthesia in 1994 with a focus on acute pain management.

Lori Palozzi graduated with a BScN in 1984 and a MScN in 1991 from the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Toronto. In 1995, Lori completed the Acute Care Nurse Practitioner post-masters certificate at the University of Toronto. She also attended the University of Buffalo, School of Nursing where she studied selected courses in the Nurse Anaesthesia program.

Lori worked as a staff nurse on the Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit where she developed an interest and passion for pain management in children. She then worked as an Clinical Nurse Specialist with Burns and Plastics and Hematology/Oncology with a focus on procedural pain.

Lori is a mentor of students and international visitors and consults on a variety of pediatric pain issues including practice guidelines, standards, pain assessment and using pain research in practice.

Clinical Care Activities

Provides comprehensive pain assessment and management to children experiencing pain in collaboration with the anesthesia pain service and multidisciplinary team. Inpatient consultation for complex pain management problems. Lori is an APN leader on “Pain Matters” an interdisciplinary working group whose mandate is to implement the RNAO best practice guidelines on pain assessment and management.
