Brief Biography

Janette received her undergraduate and Master’s degree at the University of Toronto.

Clinical Activities

Janette has clinical experience in General Paediatrics, Respiratory Medicine, Critical Care and Cardiology. Has provided comprehensive care for children with Pulmonary Hypertension at the Hospital for Sick Children since the development of the Pulmonary Hypertension Service in the year 2000; at first as a coordinator, and then as a Clinical Nurse Specialist/Nurse Practitioner over the last 4½ years. Has Cross Appointment to the University of Toronto.

Janette is recognized as a nursing expert in the care of children with Pulmonary Hypertension and has been invited to speak at conferences in Canada and the United States. She is a regular presenter at the Cardiac
and Critical Care nursing orientations within the hospital. Feels privileged to be caring for a unique patient population and be a part of a team that is involved in research and strives to improve these patients’
quality of life. She has a keen interest in developing a Child to Adult Transition Guidelines specific to the pulmonary hypertension patient population.

Research Interests

Co-investigator in two research studies.

Achievements

  • October 2006: recipient of the Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Award for Clinical Excellence, presented by Pfizer at the Nurse Practitioner Association of Ontario Conference
  • May 2003: recipient of the Shane Stradiotto Cardiac Nursing Award, presented by Cardiac Kids at the Hospital for Sick Children
