Brief Biography

Nancy Rudyk is a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) in the Preanesthesia Clinic in the Department of Anesthesia. She has been instrumental in the development of the preanesthesia program and the advance practice nurse role to coordinate the preoperative and preanesthesia care required for children and their families prior to surgery.

Nancy obtained her Nursing Diploma from George Brown College (1979), a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree from Ryerson University (1998) and completed her Master of Nursing from the University of Toronto (2004). Nancy has also completed the Perioperative Nursing program from George Brown College (1983).

Clinical Activities

Nancy began her nursing career at SickKids in 1979 as a staff nurse on the Orthopedic unit. She has held a variety of roles in the Perioperative Care Unit that have included: staff nurse in the OR, nurse educator for the OR, PACU, Diagnostic Imaging and assistant nurse manager of DSU. Nancy’s professional practice has developed her interest in preoperative care and the preanesthesia management required for medically complex children and their families prior to surgery. Nancy's clinical interest includes the assessment and management of preoperative anxiety in children, teens and their family prior to surgery.

Nancy is a part- time faculty advisor in the 4th year undergraduate nursing program, Daphne Cockwell School of Nursing, Ryerson University.

Nancy is a member of the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario, Pediatric Nurses Interest Group, Clinical Nurse Specialist Interest Group, Ontario PeriAnesthesia Nurses Association, and American Society of Perianesthesia Nurses.

Nancy is on the board of directors for the Ontario PeriAnesthesia Nurses Association. She is also the regional representative for pediatrics.
