Brief Biography

Patti is a Clinical Nurse Specialist/Nurse Practitioner in the Division of Neurosurgery. Patti has been a member of the Neurosurgery Program since 1989 in a variety of roles ranging from staff nurse on the inpatient unit to ambulatory clinic nurse. She obtained her Nursing Diploma in 1989 and Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1991 from Ryerson University and her Master of Nursing/Acute Care Nurse Practitioner in 2003 from the University of Toronto.

Patti is a member of the Registered Nurses Association, Nurse Practitioner Association of Ontario, Paediatric Nurses Interest Group, Canadian Association of Neuroscience Nurses,and Sigma Theta Tau International, Honour Society of Nurses (Lambda Pi Chapter).

Patti is also a member of B.R.A.I.N.Child, (Brain Tumour Research and Information Network), a volunter organization that supports families, friends and patients that have been diagnosed with a brain tumour and raises funds for research.

Clinical Care Activities

In addition to her broad nursing expertise in Paediatric Neurosurgery, she has subspecialty interest and advanced knowledge in the care of patients with Neurovascular disorders (e.g: AVM's, Moya-Moya Disease, Aneurysms), CNS Neoplasms, Spina Bifida and Complex Hydrocephalus.

Patti works primarily in the inpatient setting, providing comprehensive care to children admitted to the Neurosurgery Unit and their families. Providing support, education, advocacy and collaboration with other interdisciplinary team members is an integral component of her role. She serves as a clinical resource for nursing staff for practice-based issues.

Her goal is to further expand her role in the ambulatory area.

Research Interests

Quality of Life of children with Neurovascular disorders. The impact of this health condition on the patient and the family unit.

Exploring the coping mechanisms of families dealing with a child diagnosed with a brain tumour. Documenting the strategies and responses through the various stages of illness.


In 2004 Patti received an Ontario Volunteer Service Award for her dedication and commitment to B.R.A.I.N.Child.
