Brief Biography

Mary Stuart is a Clinical Nurse Specialist in the Solid Tumour Program in the Division of Oncology.

Mary obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Ryerson University (1996) and a Masters of Nursing from the University of Toronto (2004).

Mary has worked in both in-patient and out-patient Oncology since 1997 at The Hospital for Sick Children. Prior to her joining the Division of Haematology/Oncology she has worked in varied nursing roles within the Neurology, Genetic/Metabolic and Endocrine Program at The Hospital for Sick Children.

Clinical Care Activities

Working with patients and families in both in-patient and out-patient settings, Mary provides education and support to newly diagnosed families and patients with cancer, and coordinates their care throughtout their active treatment and while off active therapy.

As well Mary liases with the community and families to provide support for families facing palliation at home.

Mary is also a member of the Scientific review board for Haematology/Oncology Program.

Research Interests

Mary has recently been approved by the Research Ethics Board as a principal investigator of a qualitative study examining the impact of chemotherapy and radiation on children.

Future Research Interests

Mary is also involved as a co-investigator for a qualitative study investigating the relationship between hypernatremia and patients receiving interferon.
