Brief Biography

Gillian Thompson graduated from the University of Toronto in 1991 with a bachelor of science in nursing. In 2003 she completed a master of nursing/ acute care nurse practitioner (paediatric) program from the University of Toronto. Gillian has been working as a Nurse Practitioner in the Young Families Program in the Division of Adolescent Medicine at the Hospital for Sick Children since January 2003, becoming Team Lead in 2014.  Gillian’s clinical activity is focused on at-risk adolescent parents and their children, which has also led to research and teaching opportunities. 

Gillian has published several peer-reviewed articles on adolescent parenting and is frequently invited to speak at conferences, locally, nationally and internationally. She received a clinical appointment with the University of Toronto, Faculty of Nursing as an Adjunct Lecturer in 2004 and has been active with students in the clinical and classroom settings. Gillian’s other interests include infant mental health, adolescent mental health, sexual health, general paediatrics, and child maltreatment. She is an advocate and supporter of social paediatrics, and a contributor for the integration of a collaborative care and education model within the hospital, community and school settings. Most recently, Gillian is providing leadership on the integration of inter-professional education, care and research in adolescent health care delivery.
