Brief Biography

Jennifer Tyrrell is a Clinical Nurse Specialist on the Acute and Chronic Pain Services in the department of Anaesthesia. She provides education, support and comprehensive coordination of care to children and families experiencing acute and chronic pain both in hospital and in the community. 

In her role as Advanced Practice Nurse on the Chronic Pain Team she works collaboratively with inter-professional team members from medicine, psychiatry, psychology and rehabilitation services to provide family centered care for children with complex chronic pain conditions. Jennifer completed her undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Toronto and has worked at the Hospital for Sick Children various several roles since 1993. 

Jennifer is the chair of the Advanced Practice Nurses Council. 

Jennifer is committed to the advancement of nursing practice in this clinical area and is a role model for life long learning, the application of evidence into practice and family-centered care.

Clinical Care Activities

Provides comprehensive pain assessment and management to children experiencing pain in collaboration with the anesthesia pain service and multidisciplinary team. Inpatient consultation for complex pain management problems. Outpatient coordination of care for children with chronic pain conditions.

Research Activities

Since 2005 Jennifer has been a fellow in the Evidence Based Nursing Research Fellowship with a research focus on primary caregivers’ presence and role during painful procedures.
